In general, a low-power wireless personal area network called LoWPAN, is designed to cover the short range communication. The examples of LoWPANs are bluetooth's low energy, ZigBee/6LoWPAN and EnOcean. The speed of these networks ranges from low speed to medium speed. 

A Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN) or Low-Power Wide-Area (LPWA) network or Low-Power Network (LPN) is a type of wireless telecommunication wide area network designed to allow long range communications at a low bit rate among things (connected objects), such as sensors operated on a battery. Examples of this low-power WAN include, LTE-M, NB-IoT, LoRa and SIGFOX.  Low power wireless connectivity has become a key objective for set and forget IoT system design and development.
